Basic Rules – Rummy Card Games


Rummy card games are usually played between 2-4 players, each dealt with a set number of cards according to the variant played. Though, in a standard game players card ranges from 7, 10 and 13 in agreement with the number of players available.

Basic Practices:

  1. The Deal – A game starts with selecting a dealer. Dealer now distributes the card, shuffles and cuts the cards distributes the card and the remaining card becomes the “stock pile.” Another pile is called the “discard pile.”
  2. The Play – Rummy card games have these basic routine on very game. After selecting the first player to draw a card from the stock pile, a start of a player’s turn, where player discard the unwanted cards. Succeeding plays moves clockwise.
  3. Melding – There are two types of melds that a player can create – a set, consisting of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank (9h, 9c, 9d) or (Qclub, Qdiamonds, Qhears, Qspade). A run on the other hand is consist of 3 or more consecutive cards in the same suit, put together in sequence. For example: 3h, 4h, 5h or 6d, 7d, 8d, 9d.
  4. The vast rummy variations each have its own scoring agenda. May it be values of high and low cards for Aces, Jokers (included in some variations). However, the basic scoring is that J, Q, K always has 10 card count. Ace on the other hand, can be 15 points or in other instances NOT.
  5. The winner is determined on the first player to accumulate the lowest about of points, or being the only player to stay in the game without exceeding the elimination point according to a target score agreed initially.
