Rummy – a game of luck?
The answer is a big NO. Rummy card game only becomes a game of luck during the start of the game where the cards are shuffled. Chance plays a major role in the game initially because a player would never know what kind of cards he receives in the opening. Thus, luck; which then turns to skill as the player stars to group the cards into melds.
Complex variations of the game like Kalooki, Canasta or Mahjong entails skill rather than luck. It requires a certain player’s strategy in order to win. Primarily, it is a game of cleverness to observe, knowing what to discard and what cards to keep.
What are the skills I am referring to? To start with, you as a rummy player should have a watchful eye. At some point when I first started playing, who cares about my playmates cards? I just want to make sure that I make my pretty little melds and runs, and that’s it! Later on, after you got the hang of it, you start thinking; and when a person starts to think, it sure can be deadly!
Second, the game requires total concentration. I tell you, if you are pompously holding your card like a true player, but then thinking about other stuff, don’t play (well if it’s just for fun, you can actually). Nobody limits your actions when playing. All I’m saying is, if you are playing for money or online its taboo.
Third, as I mentioned originally. Rummy card game is a game of strategy. In order to win, it is necessary for a player to have all three qualities.
