Rummy Rules – Rummy 500
SUMMARY
In Rummy 500 as the name suggests, the main objective of the game is to score 500 points. If there are more than 5 players each will be dealt 7 cards, if there are only two players they get 13 cards each. Rummy 500 rules observe the standard ruling of most rummy variants.
Deck: 1 composed of 52 plus 2 Jokers and 2 decks (104 plus 4 Jokers) if played with more than 5 players
Number of Player: 8
Card Equivalent according to points: Aces are counted as high or low depending on the card combination. Q, K, A is allowed. But, K, A, 2 is not. Cards are counted according to their face value, like 2 of hearts is 2 points, 3 of clubs in 3 points and so on. Main Objective: To create melds in order to improve cards at hand and for a player to score 500 points.
The Play: Like most standard ruling, Rummy 500 rules confirms that a player should start his turn by drawing from the stock pile or picking up a card in the discard pile and take note, he can go as far back into the discard pile as he chooses. If the player does, he must straight away play that card in a meld. Though, laying off this card does not count as a meld. It is compulsory for a player to always end his turn by discarding a card in the discard pile.
Scoring: Aces are considered a high with 15 points. Though, if used as a low card, say for example A, 2, 3 in sequence, the Ace only counts as 5 points.
In Rummy 500 rules, scores at the end of each game is counted according to melds formed, layed off cards in opponents melds, and subtract the total of the values left in your hand. If in any case you end up with a negative count, then your score is negative, not zero. The player with 500 points wins the game, but if 2 or more players has more than 500, the highest one wins.
Melding: Melds are created by putting up sets and runs which are placed up in the table. A set is a group of 3 or 4 cards of Q. A run is a sequence of cards. Meaning 2, 3, and 4 of hearts are considered a run.
Laying off: Rummy 500 rules confirms that a player may choose to lay off melds and add cards in the combination when the need arises, either adding in his own or the opposing player’s meld.
Discarding: It is compulsory to discard a card in the discard pile after each turn and as soon as the player’s thumb is taken off from the card, it is already considered discarded and should not be taken back.
Going Out: The only way to win the game is when a player “goes out” and has accumulated 500 points. A player cannot win no matter how large his score is if another player goes out.
Wild Card: The dealer chooses one card before a hand is dealt. This is self-explanatory in Rummy 500 rules.
Jokers: Jokers are considered a low and a high card, depending on how the player would use it.
